Ryan and I have been longing for a quick getaway.. without the kids. So when he surprised me with a trip to New York for Valentines Day I was so excited I almost cried! We had the funnest time with some of our closest friends and I got so much needed Ryan time! We got to do whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted.. We got to be selfish for a weekend and I promise it was sooo needed!
This was my first time to New York and I was such a tourist! There was so much to do and so much to see… and we walked literally 1000 miles and didn’t even scratch the surface. Guess we need to go back?
Here is our New York Getaway..
The first day is always filled with traveling.. It felt so odd having only a few bags for just Ryan and myself. Usually we have like ten pieces of luggage when we travel with the kids! And since we didn’t have the kids we thought we didn’t need to show up to the airport as early. Long story short.. we were dead wrong! We got to the airport 30 minutes before our flight and they almost didn’t let us check in! It was a crazy close call but we begged and pleaded and they finally pulled some strings to let us on our flight. NEVER doing that again!
We stayed at The Hudson Hotel by Central Park. I was in love with the hotel the second we walked in. There were vines covering the walls and exposed brick everywhere! I was obsessed! The only downfall was the rooms were literally peanut sized.. but it wasn’t a big deal because we didn’t spend much time in them anyways!
I can’t even start to tell you how amazing it felt to sleep in… Amazing! Once we woke up we grabbed a quick breakfast at a Cafe next to our hotel and then walked to the American Museum of Natural History. This is the Museum that is in the movie ‘Night at the Museum’. It seriously was incredible! A definite must see!
Then we rented bikes and rode them all around Central Park. This was by far one of my favorite parts of the trip. But it totally took me a minute to remember how to ride a bike! I almost crashed like ten times! But it was seriously so much fun. Central Park is huge and so beautiful!
We rode our bikes to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. If you know me then you know I’m a huge ‘Gossip Girl’ fan. Like huge. Like I thought I was going to die when I finished the series! It was so much fun to sit on the Met Steps and eat lunch!
We then headed back to our hotel and got all ready to see Wicked on Broadway. I was completely speechless after the show. I honestly bawled because it was so incredible. Ryan even liked it and he is definitely not a Theater kind of guy! One of my favorite parts though is how Ryan kept calling Intermission.. Half time!! hahaha I love him.
We woke up early and got an Uber to take us to the Ferry. We road it to The Statue of Liberty. It was seriously so cool to see in real life. We walked around the island and took a million pictures.
After that we walked to One World (911 Memorial). It was breathtaking to see all the names of the lives that were taken engraved into the memorial.
Then we did a little shopping and ate at Ellen’s Stardust Diner. I 1000% recommend this! The food was not the greatest but ohhh the entertainment is unreal!
We walked to Levain Bakery and ate the most amazing cookies for breakfast. AMAZING. Then we shopped and shopped and shopped. It was good for the soul 🙂 My friend Tory and I somehow got a personal shopper who took us back to these unbelievable dressing rooms with treats and drinks… It honestly felt like something straight out of a movie!
Then we spent the rest of day in Brooklyn and ate at Julianas Pizzaria.. AMAZING. And we ended the night almost dying on the subway! Haha
New York was like a completely different city when we woke up on our last day! It was sooo windy and absolutely bone chilling. We literally could only last outside for a few minutes before we had to go warm up in a store! The weather all week couldn’t have been more perfect though. It was just this last day that was a bit unbearable! But it was the perfect send off.
This was honestly the perfect trip. It gave me just enough time to regroup and have some me time. I don’t get that very often! We were so excited to get back to our little boys and to snuggle them almost do death!!! I think our next trip we will need to bring the little boogers! But until them I seriously am so happy to be home 🙂
